Don’t be Afraid to Request Email Referrals For Your Business
If you think your friends and business associates are going to forward your emails soliciting new business for you, you’re probably wrong. If you want them to forward you content, ask them to do it. The heart of referral marketing after all is, referrals. You’ve already got your customers emails and maybe their business, so why not ask them to request email referrals from their friends, family and business associates.
Don’t be shy about it! Most emailers will only ask their clients to forward their content at the bottom of their email message. Don’t make this mistake, put the request at the top, bottom and middle of your email referral request. Again, the whole idea of referral marketing is to grow your business and build a bigger list.
Of course if you want them to forward your message, your content better be worthwhile. Good informative content tends to be shared the most. If you an expert at what your do and your newsletter and/or previous emails have built your credibility with your customer base, you are more likely to have your email forwarded when you ask. Of course the best way to have an email forwarded to build your referral base is to offer a special deal or bonus that others believe their friends and associates will benefit from.
Use a call to action phrase that’s more applicable to the email, than “Forward Email”. Depending on your subject, use a more applicable call to action phrase. For example, “Send this post to other people who want to build their list of contacts through referrals.” If you use an automatic email program like AWeber TBD LINK. Change your template emails to more specific text that suits your business.
Be friendly in your email tone and not blunt. For example “Forward this email” wouldn’t be as good as “If you like our newsletter, please forward it to your friends and business associates who might also benefit.”
You can also use one of those graphic buttons to forward the email to a friend. Again, you can use them in place of text forward requests. Make sure they fit the flow of your page and don’t make it look to awkward. Don’t over do it!
You might be asking, “Why Request Email Referrals with Forward Links?”
Tracking is the reason to use forward links in your email and not rely on your customers to use the forward link in their email program. The links in your email should be trackable which will help you understand the content around the links and which ones may be enticing your customers. With just an email forward, you lose the tracking.
Leverage the trust you’ve earned through your email list to get new contacts for your business.
