HTML Syntax for Inserting a Picture and Image Alt Text Using

The HTML Syntax for Inserting a picture on your website is:

<IMG SRC=”filename” ALT=”alternate picture description” WIDTH HEIGHT>

SRC tells the browser what the file name is and where it’s located.  This “filename” of the image should include the full path or location on the internet.  The file name should include the page’s SEO keywords.  This reinforces that the page includes an image which reinforces the subject of your keyword phrase.  You should be able to use this tag on almost any website or on Craigslist.

ALT is an optional parameter, which is where you include the “alternate picture description”.  This picture description is displayed if the browser has images turned off (some people do this for speed).  Again the picture Alt Text should include the keyword phrase for that page and will again reinforce your keyword for the search engine.

From a search engine optimization standpoint, SRC and ALT are the only two parameters that need to  be included in the IMG TAG.

Here are some examples of a properly formatted IMG tag

If the picture your placing on your page is of an ice cream truck and you’re in the Ice Cream Truck Rental business, with the keyword phrase for the page being “ice cream truck rental”, your image tag might look like this:

If the image is loaded in a directory called “photos” under your website root directory, here is a relative link:

<IMG SRC=”../photos/we-rented-our-ice-cream-truck-for-gadvisers-ice-cream-social-.jpg” ALT=”We rented our ice cream truck for gAdviser’s company ice cream social”>

Or for an absolute link it would be the same with the full filename path:

<IMG SRC=”http://www.YourIceCreamStore.com/photos/we-rented-our-ice-cream-truck-for-gadvisers-ice-cream-social-.jpg” ALT=”We rented our ice cream truck for gAdviser’s company ice cream social”>

<IMG SRC> WIDTH and HEIGHT Parameters are Optional

You can use the <IMG SRC> tag for inserting pictures on just about any website.  It’s one of the tags allowed for Craigslist formatting.
