Don’t Bury Your Anchor Text Landing Pages in Your Website Structure
Your main landing pages should carry the most page rank on your website and your backlink anchor text should point to these pages.
Your landing pages are your most important pages and should not be buried deep in your hierarchical design structure. They should ideally be linked from the main page on your website.
Remember a page accumulates PageRank from its inbound links. These are both pages links on your website and outside links from other websites. A landing page at the top of your website structure transfers the page rank to and from your home page and supporting pages under the main page. The further down your landing page is in the structure the more on site PageRank you will lose.
One of the SEO strategies you should use is to make sure your anchor text landing page is reachable with the fewest number of clicks from your main page.
Don’t make the mistake of linking every page on your website from your home page. Only your main anchor text pages should have a link from your home page.
Here’s an example which shows a shallow structure to the landing page. In the bad example you need to click four links before you get to your important landing page. This is an ineffective way to transfer PageRank on your site.
Bad Example:
Home Page -click> Sub Page –click> Sub Page –click> Sub Page –click> Important Landing Page
This is a better strategy:
Home Page -click> Important Landing Page –click> Sub Page
More on website hierarchal structure
