Should I Expect Increased SEO Traffic by Optimizing My Images
Images on your web site are yet another way for you to improve your Google SEO page rank. All images have file names, for example when you download from you camera they may have a file name like DSC00456.jpg or something generic like that. You should rename the photo or videos before they are uploaded to your website. The photo file name should be descriptive with the keyword for that page in the file name of the photo. For example, the photo above (DSC00456.jpg) might be of a glass of wine. If your page is optimized around the keyword phrase “red wine tasting”. The photo should have a file name like “Sue-is-enjoying-our-new-merlot-at-our-red-wine-tasting-party.jpg”. Google and the other search engines now know what this picture is about and that it ties into the main keyword content on your page.
All your images and videos should have descriptive names before they are uploaded to your website. Many internet searches are done specifically on images. This just might drive more traffic to your web site. This is especially important if you are actually selling the images or photographs on your website.
In addition to the file names, if your website software lets you add Alt Txt for your images, you should also make sure this is updated. Again, the Alt Txt information reinforces to the search engines like Google what your image and page is about.
