Use Your Friends and Customers for Referral Marketing of your Business
Leverage your current customer and friends and get them talking about your products and services. Word of mouth, or email, or social networking is still a core strategy in referral marketing. The tools available today make it easy for your family and associates to pass on information about your business… the cornerstone of your referral marketing.
A website is not enough anymore, your business needs a social networking presence for you to post information about you and your business. Facebook and Twitter two of the most popular, but there are many others. Just like your website, placing helpful information on these and other social media sites will help you grow your customer base. Being available on the social sites will make it easy for your current contacts to connect you to others. It’s almost like asking your family to pass out business cards… without the asking or the business cards.
Make Them Aware of Your Presence
Assuming your signed up for Facebook or Twitter and/or any of the other social media sites, it’s time to put the word out and make your customers, friends and family aware of your new online presence. You could wait for people to find your new webspace or be proactive and include links to your new space everywhere:
- After your signature in email
- Links on your website
- Link all your social media sites
- Put a sign in your store or office
- Leverage your friends for referral marketing on their social media site
Some Ideas for Content
Creating new and unique content for your website is always the best bet, but once you create it, you can make use of it multiple times… for example it can be placed on your website and in each of your social media web spaces, you can also Tweet about it on Twitter.
If you are looking for content ideas, ask your customers and those who frequent your site or space. Link to or reference newsletters and/or blog posts. Monitor the comments on your wall, blog or website for ideas. Ask readers what they want and give them what their looking for, don’t just assume you know that they want to learn about. If you can tap into the needs or your customers and what they want to talk about, you’re more likely to have your story forwarded to others.
Don’t miss out on this marketing opportunity. If you don’t think you have the time, hire a professional, friend or family member to help post your content for you.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Them to Talk About You
Ask all your contacts to share their success with your business. Ask them to talk about you. If you offer a special or deal that you can send to your customers, ask them to Retweet or Pass it on. Get that viral referral marketing working for you!
Just like in any other online marketing where your asking someone to do something for you, don’t overdo it. Use the 80 / 20 rule, help someone 80% of the time than ask for the favor the other 20%. It’s the same philosophy I employ on RichClose.com.
