Speed Up Your Website and Test With Google Webmaster Tools

Nothing’s more frustrating for a potential customer or anyone surfing the net, than to have a website page load really slow.  Google’s here to help with a web site performance now in webmaster tools.  The tool will show you information about the speed of your website with suggestion on how to make it faster.
There have been studies done which show that speeding up your website improves visitor retention, more site activity, higher revenue and lower costs.  Here are some Google articles and best practices to improve your website speed.

If you haven’t turned on webmaster tools you should and give this a try.

Some of the data and statics you’ll receive on your site from Webmaster Tools, Site Performance is:

  • how fast your pages load
  • how the speed changed over time
  • benchmark comparison against other sites
  • examples of specific pages
  • page speed up tips

Where does Google get all this data?

Google uses their Google Toolbar to send data back to Google on page load time, then compiles and aggregates this data to use in their calculations.  If you don’t want Google to send this data when you surf, make sure you opt out of their enhanced features. If you site doesn’t have much traffic, you may not see any data.  Remember this information is “average” user times, some may be slower and some may be faster.
