WIDTH and HEIGHT Parameters are Optional

The <IMG SRC> WIDTH and HEIGHT parameters are optional and tell the browser the dimensions of the picture on your website page.  If this information is provided, the browser will use this information to reserve space for the picture until it has the time to download the image.   The WIDTH and HEIGHT parameters can be formatted in two different ways:

WITDH=200 HEIGHT=150

WITDH=”50%” HEIGHT=”50%”

In the first example, the picture width is fixed to 200 pixels and the height to 150 pixels.  In the second example, the width and height are a percentage of the pictures original size.   In most cases you should use the fixed dimensions.

Note that if you specify the picture size as a percent of the original in the IMG SRC, the number and percentage need to be in quotation marks.

Here’s our example with the WITDH=200 HEIGHT=150

<IMG SRC=”http://www.YourIceCreamStore.com/photos/we-rented-our-ice-cream-truck-for-gadvisers-ice-cream-social-.jpg” ALT=”We rented our ice cream truck to gAdviser’s for their ice cream social” WITDH=200 HEIGHT=150>

Here’s the same example where the picture is 50% of it’s original size:

<IMG SRC=”http://www.YourIceCreamStore.com/photos/we-rented-our-ice-cream-truck-for-gadvisers-ice-cream-social-.jpg” ALT=”We rented our ice cream truck to gAdviser’s for their ice cream social” WITDH=”50%” HEIGHT=”50%”>
