Email Marketing Versus Social Website Marketing

Email marketing can give you a laser focus on content for your customers.  The social network sites like facebook, twitter and linkedin offer a more loose connection to your customers.  Email tends to allow that one on one, more personal communication with your customers and prospects.  The social sites are a more casual communication en mass to your social networks.

When a customer gives you permission to send email to their inbox, they are saying they want you to provide content and information that’s worthy of their trust and will continually click through to see your content.  Social media can increase your small business presence, but it will never replace the more individual email communications that email allows.

While email can give your marketing campaign a personal touch, social media should be a part of a small businesses overall marketing strategy.  It allows you to reach customers where they want to be reached so start your business marketing campaigns on facebook and twitter today.

Here’s how it all ties together especially for a small business with limited resources.  You could create a blog to create content which automatically feeds a newsletter; this is exactly what I do with RichClose.com and Aweber email marketing services.  There are automated tools available which can replicate the content from your blog to facebook and twitter.  The social sites can then be used to generate more leads for your newsletter membership and email marketing.  Again I use Aweber to create the opt-in web forms I use for my email marketing.

I’ve read that in four years (2014), people will receive 25 email marking messages per day.  Once you get that new lead or even your current customer listings, don’t abuse the privilege of having them on your mailing list.  Make sure the content is well written and relevant for your email readers.  Follow the 80/20 rule and only sell in 1 out of 5 emails.
